What happens when a leading telecom provider outgrows its legacy systems? For Telenet group, the answer was a smooth and secure cloud migration, not just in theory, but for over 5,000 users in one weekend. With Idalko as strategic partner, the company transformed its internal tooling with minimal disruption, maximum preparation, and a shared commitment to success.
From on-premise limitations to cloud readiness
Telenet group is a household name in Belgium, serving both residential and business customers under brands like Telenet, BASE, and TADAAM. Behind the scenes, their internal teams rely on Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence to deliver, collaborate, and innovate.
Until recently, those tools were hosted on-premise. But as cloud capabilities grew, the gap between what was possible on-premise and what the cloud version offered widened. “We knew we couldn’t keep up with future needs if we stayed where we were,” says Kristof, Project Manager. “The cloud offered features and agility we simply couldn’t access before.”

Moreover, moving to the cloud aligned with Telenet’s broader IT vision: becoming a cloud-first organisation.
The challenge: zero disruption for thousands of users
A move of this scale doesn’t happen overnight. With 4,000 to 5,000 users across multiple teams, vendors, and functions, Telenet group required the migration to happen fast, clean, and invisible to the business.
“We couldn’t afford a week of downtime or even a day. We had to switch off the old environment Friday evening and be fully operational again Monday morning — without hiccups,” Jan, Director Business Transformation, Telenet group

That demand for zero disruption raised the stakes. Telenet group needed a partner who not only understood Atlassian Cloud inside-out, but could also think beyond tooling: planning, change management, technical prep, and user coordination.
“
As a certified Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner, Idalko combined strong technical expertise with business insight , a rare mix in the market.”

Co-creating success: one team, one playbook
Idalko joined the team early on, not just as a supplier, but as a trusted partner. Their initial assessment mapped out the complexity of Telenet’s setup and allowed for a detailed playbook to guide every phase. That level of professionalism was a key reason why Telenet group chose Idalko.
“It wasn’t about outsourcing the migration, the opposite. It was about integrating. The Idalko-consultants became part of our team. They joined our stand-ups, adapted to our agile way of working, and were just as committed to the result as we were,” says Kristof.

Throughout the project:
- Idalko helped define which data and configurations had to be migrated, and how.
- Dozens of dry runs were executed to simulate every step of the go-live weekend.
- Technical scripts were refined and tested iteratively outside business hours.
- Security and compliance were addressed early, in close alignment with Telenet’s internal data privacy and legal teams.
Beyond the migration: enabling the future
The weekend of truth. “We knew Friday night what would happen hour by hour. That was only possible because we’d already done it. Repeatedly,” Jan explains. The go-live weekend itself went better than expected: zero hiccups, thousands of users live, no incidents. But the impact doesn’t stop there.
Now that the platform is cloud-based, new possibilities are opening fast. “We’re experimenting with AI-powered features, rolling out new modules, and changing the way we support teams,” says Kristof. “We couldn’t have done that without this migration.”
What’s more, Telenet group now has a scalable, standardised environment that supports both IT governance and business agility. Internal change becomes easier. Innovation cycles get shorter. Teams can take ownership.
More than a supplier: committed, embedded, reliable
Idalko’s role was both technical and human. They brought in scripts and playbooks, but also flexibility, commitment, and trust. “They didn’t give up when things got hard. They adapted, they collaborated, and they were part of our team,” says Jan.
“
What stood out was the mix of expertise and ownership. Marko, one of their consultants, came in as a junior and left as a senior. That growth, that drive… you could really feel it. ”

Telenet group also valued Idalko’s role as a platinum Atlassian partner, especially when support was needed directly from Atlassian engineers. “There were issues that neither we nor Idalko could have solved alone. But thanks to their position, we got those escalated and solved. That made a real difference.”
